Old Iron Town

Mormon President Brigham Young did not advocate the mining of precious metals. However he did recognize the value of southwestern Utah and its Iron Ore. It was needed for use by a lot of pioneers.

Iron City or Old Iron Town is evidence of his passion driven by need for this precious metal.

Heading west on State Route 56 west of Cedar City, Utah turn left on the Old Town Ruins Road and discover the Old Iron Town Ruins buildings, foundations, stones, and a well-preserved coke oven. This same road if followed will take you into the small town of Pinto, Utah and from there into the site of the Mountain Meadow Massacre near Enterprise, Utah.
