Iron County is one of the oldest counties in the State of Utah.
Origin of county name: Iron County was named due to iron deposits in the area of Old Iron Town Ruins just west of Cedar City.

Economy: Agriculture is still a large part of the economy and the way of life in Iron County. The majority of the farmers grow alfalfa, wheat, potatoes, and small vegetables, as their main crops. Iron County has a more balanced and broadly based economy than most of rural Utah. It is located along the Interstate 15, (I-15) corridor.
