Cedar City is building a new convention center it hopes will sustain businesses during the economic dry spell that folows the end of the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

The center will be in downtown and as part of the Heritage Center.

The Heritage Center is a 1,000 seat theater tha opened summer of 2002. It is host to many performances that are seperated from the Utah Shakespearean Festival. The Shakespearean Festival is held on the campus of Southern Utah University from June through October each year.

Once the new convention center is finished and opened, it will be turned over to Cedar City to operate and maintain it.

The Cedar City Mayor is confident that the convention center will give a boost to Cedar City's image as "The Festival City" and bring more tourists in to spend more money and stay more nights in the local hotels and motels while patronizing the areas restuarants and businesses.
The convention center will help make Cedar City, Utah a Unique Festival City.
